how one year has flown by

Tomorrow will be the last official teaching day in YP for the year. Next week will be our farewell BBQ. It has truly been a blessed year in YP. The year has seen the young people going through series on the Reliability of the Bible, the Overview of the Bible as well as Bible Doctrines. It has truly been a joy teaching and learning together with them as we prepared for classes. Also been a blessing working with the rest of the staff.

Looking back I remember how hesitant I was at the beginning of the year to leave YA and start serving in YP, mostly for selfish reasons of familiarity and comfort.

But being in YP this year has truly, truly been (for lack of a better word) awesome! It's really humbling to be involved in the lives of these young Christians - their spiritual growth, their walk with the Lord and personal development. One of the most blessed things this year was to be able to witness 5 of them taking the step of obedience in baptism.

The LORD alone be magnified and praised!

Throughout this year, the vision has been to ground them and for better fellowship. We started having pre-meeting games (handled by the hubby) for those who arrive early, to enhance fellowship and bonding.

During singspiration, the YPs lead (like how it's done in YA) the singing, not the teachers. It's good training ground for these young Christians, hehe. It was amazing to watch how one particular YP grew from the beginning of this person's first song-leading 'duty' to today. Really encouraging!

Teaching sessions are conducted in two parts, the first part being an open session taken by the hubby or Lean. The second part is usually in classes, either discussion based or further teaching, by those who take the role of teaching.

Then it's after class games. This is handled in turns by the hubby and Chee Hao because the rest of us feel we can't handle games well, and the both of them do a better job at it ;) I guess basically that's how service in YP works. Serve in the area you think you can help out in, but for the areas you know you're bad at, someone else will do that. After all, the hand can't do the job of the eye ;)

All in all, the joy at the end of the day is in serving the young people for Him. One of my most thankful teaching moments in YP are the moments when the girls I teach in class come up to me and ask me Biblical questions. It's such a joy to see the Word of God take root in their hearts, and even more humbling to let the Lord use weak people like us :)

In You alone Lord, is my strength.

this is a wonderful testimony jie!! :) amazing how the results are vastly different when He takes control, and we can always look back and proclaim, "You crown the year with goodness!" (Psalm 65:11).
